How are embryos kept frozen during shipping?
We use dry vapour shippers charged with liquid nitrogen. There is no free liquid inside and nothing to plug in, and the unit we book for long-haul routes is rated for a 17-day static hold at approximately -190°C.
Is embryo shipping safe for the embryos?
Yes, when done properly. Vitrified embryos are extremely stable at cryogenic temperatures. With our hand-carry protocol, a passive shipper rated well past the length of the route, and a zero X-ray exposure policy, your embryos are well protected.
How long does embryo shipping take?
Domestic US shipments typically complete within 24-48 hours. International routes (US to UK, US to Mexico) usually take 48-72 hours including customs clearance.
What documentation is needed for embryo transport?
Requirements vary by destination. For UK imports, you need HFEA special directions. For international transfers, we handle FDA tissue export documentation, customs declarations, and clinic transfer agreements.
